Whitchurch

Whitchurch residents commonly refer to their local area as “The Village”, as until Cardiff expanded earlier in the twentieth century it really was a separate area. Since the city has expanded Whitchurch has developed as a thriving suburb, very much middle class and with some of Cardiff’s most beautiful houses.

Schools and Amenities

The modern suburb also contains several schools, with Whitchurch High School being the largest school in Wales. As well as being close to the University of Wales Hospital in Heath (about a mile away), the area has a high proportion of people employed in the medical profession due to Whitchurch Hospital (a psychiatric hospital built in the Victorian era) and Velindre Hospital, a major cancer hospital in South Wales, both being located here.

Whitchurch is well connected to the City Centre via Manor Way and a flyover to North Road which takes you right to Cardiff Castle in the city centre. Cardiff Bus buses run frequently on this fast route as well as via Llandaff; the three railway stations of Whitchurch, Llandaff and Coryton are all convenient for the area. From the centre of Whitchurch, Park Road runs directly up to the Coryton Interchange which connects with the M4 and A470.

The Whitchurch and Llandaff Living magazine and website have further useful information about these areas.
