The postcard-perfect St Fagans village is just a short 4 miles from the centre of Cardiff and is known throughout the UK as it home to The Museum of Welsh Life. Locals have long referred to the museum simply as “St Fagans” and as such it has recently been renamed St Fagans: National History Museum. The centre is one of the largest open-air museums in Europe and makes for a exciting family day out. The museum charts Wales’ journey from its rural traditions to industrial powerhouse, featuring extensive galleries and 100 acres of beautiful parkland. Kids love the recreated Celtic village whilst the “21st Century house” gives a glimpse of sustainable living for the future. There are over forty buildings (including medieval homes, miners cottages, shops and a post office) that have been transported and rebuilt to recreate 500 years of Wales’ history, plus an events programme and craft demonstrations that run throughout the year.

Restaurants

One of the most popular restaurants in the area is ‘The Old Post Office’. Set within the old village Post Office and Police Station, the listed building holds many a story. The modern restaurant extension is a perfect example of how they have fused the new with the old. The menu is a mix of traditional dishes given a new dimension with some modern European influences. Next door is the Plymouth Arms, a Vintage Inn gastro-style pub which is popular from folks from all over Cardiff.

Visitors to these fine restaurants are sure to be impressed by the beautiful Cardiff property for sale in St Fagans!

St Fagans railway station

Rhodri Morgan has recently called upon the Welsh Assembly to consider plans to re-open the disused St Fagan’s Train Station, which would undoubtedly be a huge boost for the area.
