Roath and Roath Park

RoathArea.jpg

Roath is one of the longest-established areas of Cardiff, just outside the city centre and with excellent local facilities. The main shopping streets are Albany Road and Wellfield Road, both of which being particularly good for shopping with many small independent stores (including the Albany Gallery) as well as major retailers including Tesco, Iceland, Boots and Peacocks. There is also a very wide selection of restaurants and coffee shops, plus take-away outlets representing almost every imaginable world food. Don’t miss the award-winning Albany Fish Bar which has won many awards for its fish and chips – highly recommended!

Leisure facilities

Roath also features various sports grounds, an outdoor tennis centre, and the famous Roath Park with it’s lighthouse and huge boating lake, and botanical gardens located in well preserved Victorian greenhouses. The park is immaculately maintained by Cardiff Council and as a result has received a Green Flag award as a result. The lake is home to large numbers of ducks, geese and other water birds.

Book lovers will also delight in the recently re-built Roath Library which is adjacent to the Penylan Community and Leisure Centre. Just around the corner is Cardiff's largest Baptist Church.

Education

Roath is extremely popular as a student area, being close to the main University of Wales and UWIC campuses. This contributes to a lively atmosphere and ever-changing look and feel of the local pubs (The Claude being especially popular), bars and eateries. But it is also a great area for families and young professionals. There are several schools in Roath including Albany Primary School, Marlborough Junior School and County Infant School and St Teilos High School, and Cardiff’s largest further education college Coleg Glan Hafren is also located here on City Road.

Roath property market

The Victorian feel extends across most of the suburb, with large grand houses on broad tree-lined streets at the northern and eastern ends, and smaller family and student rental terraces elsewhere. Roath Property in Cardiff is very sought after, and due to the high numbers of students it tends to change hands regularly. As a result there are many Cardiff property sales and lettings agents here, but beware as there are many reports of poor service from those based in the area.

Cardiff Homes cover the Roath area from their Llandaff North estate agent office. The area offers excellent opportunities to view and buy houses for sale as well as flats and apartments in the Roath area of Cardiff.
