Heath

HeathArea.jpg

Heath is a leafy quiet area to the north east of Cathays and is a favourite location for families. The University Hospital of Wales (also know simply as Heath Hospital) is located here and is the largest in Wales, so the local area is particularly sought after by medical students and qualified doctors, nurses and hospital staff.  The hospital has a 24 hour A&E department as well as a dental hospital division.

The houses in Heath tend to be well-built medium to large Victorian era terraces.

Heath amenities

Whitchurch Road is the main commercial street in the area, with loads of take-aways, cafes and restaurants, shops and the ever-popular Heath Pub. This area is also home to Companies House, and the office complex which also includes Department of Trade and Industry and Department of Work and Pensions offices is a major local employer.

The green heart of Heath is the huge Heath Park, with lovely wooded walks and a ride-on minature railway for the children. Maindy Pool is also close by, offering swimming and fitness classes. Heath has its own Co-op, a Doctor’s Surgery and several pharmacies. It has become more popular area with those students doing medicine-based/healthcare courses since it is near to the Heath Park Campus, which Cardiff University shares with the University Hospital of Wales.
